A little background on Northampton:
The first record of Northampton was in 914 when it was called 'Ham Tune', this combination of Old English words literally translate to 'Home Town'. The prefix of 'North' was added to distinguish it from similarly named towns such as Southampton. Present day Northampton is the latest version of a town that has existed since the Bronze Age, even Neolithic remains have been found in the Briar Hill district. Market Square in Northampton is known for being the largest and most historic of it's kind in Britain dating back to 1235 - the square is linked to Northampton's main shopping area Abingdon Street.
